Hello, bought a 89 ranger recently with a M50 Mazda trans in it I went to check the fluid, there is a larger 17mm bolt/ plug on the passenger side that pulled out, fluid gushed so I put it right back in, was this the wrong plug by any chance? Thanks

Yes you've got the wrong plug, both plugs are on the drivers side and you use a 15/16" wrench or socket to remove them.

I think it's 24mm plugs on the M5OD, but yeah, look on the driverside. They are marked "FILL" and "DRAIN".
