I thought i read once that an 88 E87A (m50?) 2 wd trans can be converted to a 4wd trans by changing the rear housing?...and possibly tailshaft?...i have bought a spare trans...(2wd) and though i might take the time to do that while rebuilding....thanks for input...

(this is a 4cyl version trans)

yes that is all you have to do, but make sure that you get a tail/mainshaft from an earlier M50 trans. I thought I read somewhere that there are different lengths on the mainshafts. Maybe the mainshaft from a 4.0L m50 is longer or something....

Anyway I converted mine. It was an '89 2wd M50 that I used the tail housing and tail/mainshaft out of a 89 or 90 B2 with 2.9L.
It was very easy to do. Since I had it apart, I went ahead and put new 5th/reverse hub and bearings, seals in.

thanks for the info..

I'll try to get up to speed with this..thanks again..
