Hello all,
I have a 88 ranger, 2.9 liter, with a m5od trans.
I am having problems with very hard shifting. Since I have had the truck (2 years), the clutch engages rather late. But shifting still was smooth. About a month ago however the shifting became harder and harder until i almost had to force it into gear especially first and reverse. I ended up pushing the shifter out of place trying to get it into gear. I easily fixed the shifter and I decided to bleed the clutch because I figured it was the reason for the late clutch engagement and hard shifting. After looking around online on how to bleed the clutch i read to bleed it by opening the bleeder screw, then pushing the clutch petal 3/4 of the way down, closing the bleeder screw, releasing the clutch, then slowly pumping the clutch five times. I did this many many times making sure there was no air or bubbles in the fluid coming out. I also checked how far the pressure plate was moving. It was moving about 1/4 inch. Is this enough movement? The clutch petal is pretty stiff. But it is still very hard to get it into gear, especially first and reverse. Could there be a problem with the slave cylinder? or the clutch master cylinder?
Thanks for the help,
Nate
