Looked thru all the posts but want to be absolutely sure. changing out a clutch and lost some fluid from tranny so am going to change it all. What leaked out seems heavier than ATF and doesn't smell like it either. I'm pretty sure it is the original oil as I've owned it since almost new. It's pretty dirty with no red color. I've had no problems with the tranny . I want to sell so I don't want to cause any new problems. What lube should I use???

P.S. having a heck of a time getting the tranny in that last 1 inch--used alignment tool for pressure plate--also using longer bolts of which I have three installed. Backed it out 3 times but just won't go --I know it's the pilot bearing --never had this much problem with a clutch. I'm even doing it on a lift.
Any tips --I'm old and impatient--and can't even drink cause I take to many pills.

That Toyo Kogyo should take 80w but everyone has debats so this:

If you are within an inch your splines on the tranny shaft are through the clutch disc so yea pilot bushing. I always sand the snout with crockus cloth and when I get within an inch and it fights... I get western with it and jiggle the living crap out of it then pop it goes. Good luck and let us know how ya do.

Whatever you do don't use the bell-housing bolts to pull the Transmission the rest of the way on. You may or may not have already known this but its always worth mentioning.

Before I installed my new pilot bearing, I had it in the freezer overnight.
It went in ok.
When I tried to install my trans it was very tight.
After using steel wool. and lubricant the trans was still tight.
I left the trans outside of the garage. The next morning it was 16 degree
outside. I got up early, ran out to the garage and install my trans ok.
Amazing how cold temps changes the size...
