LT 245/75R/16 or P255/70P/16

I had a 99 Ranger 4x4, auto, 4.0 that I had LT245/75R/16 on that got rear ended and totaled and I replaced it with a 2007 Ranger with same options except it has P255/70R/16 tires on it which are getting ready for replacement. My question is can I drop a size from the P255/70R/16 to LT245/75R/16 as like the 10 ply tires as I do a lot of driving off road and so far I haven't found and tires in the 255 size that are 10 ply that have a mud and snow tread. I know it might make a difference in my MPH & speed but is there any other thing that the size might affect? Thanks

Have you tried the tire size calculator? I bet those two sizes are very close.

going by just the numbers the 245s are taller by about 1/2 inch.
since actual revolutions-per-mile (size) differ a lot, I would check the manufacturers specs for both tires.

There would only be about a MPH difference. So not a huge one. From what I remember, 245/75R16 is an OEM size. I don't remember 255/70R16 being one but my memory might be faulty. If you have a GPS to compare, the 245/75R16 might give a better indicated speed over the 255/70R16 since later Rangers tend to be set for the 30" tire and then other sizes are thrown on for a given trim within an acceptable tolerance. Later Rangers with less than 30" tires tend to read faster than why they are actually going (about 2 MPH), at least in the 4X4 models.
