Yea, I am sticking with a 5.3, 4L80E. With a 1" body lift, most of those height and width problems go away.
Mark, once i get back to KY, I'm doing a 5.3/4L60E in the Ranger. I will make sure i do a good write-up
Ya'll are going about it wrong... Try and find an LQ4 from a 2001+ truck... That way you get the 4.00" bore and you can use the L92 heads... You can make so much more power (cheaper) than an LS1 with the 4.00" bore... IIRC it's not recommended to bore the LS1 out to 4.00" (I think 3.905/3.908) is the furthest you can go... With the 4.00" bore blocks, worked over L92 heads, mild to moderate cam, good tune, etc, I've seen guys put down around 425 RWHP for ~$2500...
Sounds good! When are you going back? Also, why are you in SD?
September. I'm a former Marine that stayed to finish college
LQ4's are more expensive than an LM7 (5.3) LS1's are just as expensive, if not more. Therefor, neither are on my radar. 5.3 makes 305 HP, and with a tune and a set of 317 ported and polished heads, can easily make over 350. All for under a grand.
LQ4's are much cheaper than an LS... More than 50% sometimes... When I was looking 5.3 and 6.0 blocks were right the same... I'd rather pay a few more $$ and get the LQ... So much more potential...
