I recently picked up a super low mileage 2003 super cab FX4 and the truck has been great for the few weeks I've owned it except for one thing. I bump my head on the crossmember behind the driver's seat, especially when my seat is hard in the cold.

I was thinking that I might be able to cut about an inch out of the seat rail feet without the middle part of the seat hitting the floor but I don't want to do this to my stock base. Does anyone know what years will interchange? I called a few salvage yards in the area and one said that his computer says that '02 and '03 are the same. Is it hard to get the seat off the track? I have to admit that I haven't taken a extremely close look at it yet.

What about some other ideas? I don't want to do any modifications to it that aren't fairly easy to put pack to stock in case I decide to sell it.

you could always take apart the seat and cut off bottom layers of foam then put it back together for an easy 1-2 inches of height..

Good idea about cutting the foam. For some reason it didn't occur to me to do that.

After you cut the foam, does the back lumbar support hit you in a bad spot or is it still alright? Did you cut just the bucket or the small center seat also?

Is it difficult to take the foam out of the seat? I'm guessing the upholstery is just stapled to the seat base?
