Any ideas on how to keep the Lower Radiator Hose out of the Serpentine belt? I am on my 2nd one in 3 days and it is now being cut.

I have a 4.0 sohc out of a 2000 explorer 4x4 sport that I transplanted to a 2000 ranger. Everything bolted to the Engine is from the explorer as well as the radiator.

Did I miss adjusting something on Install? I have used it without fault for 2 months almost everyday. Monday I smelt Antifreeze and found the cut, only slight leak under pressure. I replaced with one from Autozone Monday evening and Today, I smelt the same thing and took a look and there it was, cut again.

It does not touch until after the engine is on and then it does not look as it is touching.

Is there a "Generic" one that can be bent and routed for a more Custom fit?

Could it be that motor mounts are bad, allowing engine to tourqe excessivly? Maybe some well placed zip ties to pull it back out of the way?

I havent thought of the motor mounts. What are other signs of wear? I really do not want to have to do that though.

Did you get aftermarket hoses?

I had this happen to me a while back with a set of AZ hoses. I went and got one from NAPA, and it didn't happen again.

To avoid patent/copy right/what ever legal term they apply to this issues the after market companies each have a slightly different design both from the OE and from each other. If one hose rubs usually another store's house brand will be ok.

If you want to check your engine mounts (not a bad idea anyway) get a friend/loved one/someone you trust not to run over you/ etc to sit in the driver's seat, start it, put it in D, and then with parking brake set and foot firmly on the brakes, have them goose the engine.

The engine should move a bit, but less than an inch side to side. If it gets rocking and rocks way over to the side you have at least one bad mount, but just get them both, it's easier.

I went to 4 parts stores today and nobody had the hose. So at O'rylies (sp?) I got a Flex Hose. Basically it is a hose that can bend any way without colapsing. The hose is the same length so I twisted it till I got the largest clearence, about 1/2 inch about 1/4 more that the other hose. So I hope this works.

need pict. mine is a 2 piece set up with a metal sleeve for clearance.
