Lower just the back?

I have a 1996 Ranger XLT. I dont have the money to buy drop beams for the front. Would it be a good idea to just lower the back? The back of my truck is already higher than the front. It looks gay that way.

you can lower the front about 2" with the stock beams using some drop springs (dont cut coils).

for the back you have the option of flipping the axle, flipping the hangers, or removing leaves.

yes i was reading about how you can get drop springs. i was thinking about that. And ill probably do flip kit on the back.

flipped shackles are the way to go for a small drop. Rides great and is easily reversable. hardest thing is getting the rivets out depending on what tools you have access to.

I remove the overload leaf on each side--that gives you a much better ride without loosing a lot of load-carrying ability (removing one of the longer leafs can cause sagging). I chiseled off the rivets (took 45 min.) & flipped the brackets ( the back of the truck dropped level with the front). I cut my coils and lowered the front 3" (BUT, I'd advise you to get a pair of lowereing coils!)

I want to have the whole thing lowered in the future. Its just that i wanna go ahead and lower the back 4". And how bad would the back stock shock absorbers hit after flipping the rear axle? I dont have the money for lower shock absorbers right now.

maybe you should save up until you can afford all the parts required to do it right

A 4" drop will cause the shocks to bottom out on a regular basis. Your ride will be crappy and it isn't worth not replacing them. Toxic shocks are cheap, or hit up you local parts store for shocks that are 4" shorter. You may have to do some research for the right replacement. Also, they do make shock extenders, they bolt on at the bottom shock mount and allow a lower mounting point for the shock. I don't know how much they are though. You just need to get within 2" for things to be "OK".

Thank you. I was looking at the DJM Drop Shocks on Summit Racing and they are $50 each.

NAPA dealers have a book that shows the compressed & extended length of every shock they sell--just ask em to let you look thru the book to find the right shocks, then buy em & pay 1/2 the price of lowering shocks For those who have the money---buy the drop shocks.....
