Low Torque Problem

I recently replaced my 3.0L in my '93 Ranger with a brand new long block from Ford. Replaced the stock air intake with a K&N kit from Auto Speed Store. Installed dual exhaust from the cat back in hopes of gaining a little more horse power and torque.

Instead, it operates like I have less torque now then when I had the original engine with blown head gaskets in it. When I'm starting off in 1st gear I have to rev the engine slightly higher than I normally would to get it moving, then, regardless of how much throttle I give it, the engine just doesn't want to respond. At times, this makes it difficult when starting on a hill.

With all of the new parts that were installed, could it be something with the computer? I was told that once the parts were replaced, remove the battery for overnight then install it the next day and the computer would reset itself to match the new intake and exhaust.

I've driven the truck for about 600 miles now. There have been improvements with the overall performance of the engine, but stll no increase in the engines torque.

What could be the cause of this?

Thank you for any insight you can give to me.

Dave

if its a 3.0, why is this in the 2.9 forum :icon_confused:

Increasing HP doesnt decreas torque.....torque is figured out by using HP. If you look at some dyno charts you will see that on every engine at 5250 rpm torque and horsepower are the same. Increasing higher rpm HP moves the torque you get higher in the rpm range.

Are you sure the timing is correct if your using the old damper try advancing the timing a couple degrees and see if there is an improvment.
