i hooked up a pressure gauge to the truck when i started it was around 45 to 50 psi. when it was warmed up i had 8-11 psi on the gauge. should i worry about it? i know the gauge i got is on the money cause i use it to tune the gauges on diesels engines.

the truck got about 130,000 on it should i goto a heavier oil and what weight.
right now i got fresh 5w20 valvoline full synthetic with a new sensor.

I thought I read somewhere that that range is ok but I don't totally remember, what happens when you rev it up with the gauge attached?

I do not care what the manual says, or what other folks say,
I have run Valvoline 20W-50 oil in my truck since day one. Have over 100,000 miles on it now and even the Camshaft Synchronizer looks to be in good shape. Of course I take the Camshaft Sensor off and pour some oil down there quite frequently, so that may be why.

But I have not had a lick of trouble with the engine since I bought it with 20,000 miles in 2002. External problems not oil related, YES! But mine runs quiet, smooth and gets around 20 mpg, which is good to me for a 3.0.

I do not know what pressure mine runs at. One day I will hook up a gauge and probably be shocked. But I would not be overly concerned about low pressure while idling. What is it like once moving? Thats the question.

What's that old rule about oil pressure?
Ten lbs of pressure for every 1000 rpm,
I think that's right.

Bottomline, according to that rule you're right
on as far as oil pressure goes, even with the
5w-20.......

Now if you had only 5-10 psi when running
at highway speeds, that's another matter.....

Ford's 'switched' gauges are set at about 5 psi,
so anything above that is considered 'normal'.....
Scary, huh....?:icon_surprised:
