Low hieght SAS?


It's true, neglecting this can result in the two shafts turning into one lol. This is simply a matter of normal maintenance though. Put some sealant (or weld) around the cap on the yoke if it leaks, make sure the axle boot is in good condition (most are) and that it's sealed properly against the shaft (zip ties are not sufficient, use metal clamps such as hose clamps).
Service interval should be the same as for your front wheel & spindle bearings (and will be very easy to get to because you'll have everything else already apart).



Yep, pull it apart, slather a bunch of moly CV joint grease on/in it, put it back together (make sure the axle yokes are still in phase when reassembling it).
See above for interval.



I keep my front shafts right here (a 2" BL has more advantages than you might think :D ):

On long trips far away from civilization, I'll strap a spare steering linkage to the top of the rear bumper (happens to fit perfect there with the custom bumper setup I have).

I don't normally carry a spare front driveshaft though, having the HP frontend puts it up high enough that damaging it doesn't seem too likely



Check through the RBV Axle Upgrades sticky and the Suspension FAQs for some info, if you haven't already. Aside from that, some searching and looking through other's experiences may yield some info ('90s 4.0L RBVs overall are pretty robust).



You've broken the newer 3-spider ARBs too??

multiple failures. i had 2 complete-3 pinions, and a shit ton of odd small failures and parts.

those guys were convinced i had 500 hp and 40's. but its possible to fug em up with 33.s and 10 sq in the bed.


when you bust a 31 spline shaft it fuggs em right up worse then the ol 28's. but i only busted a couple. the thing is i had the axle over loaded, and since i know i will always over load it it was just better to go full float instead of hybrid floating the 8.8. a well built truss and full float setup may have let it live though.

Dang, you're the first one I've heard of to break a 3-spider one if that's the case...

You say a shaft broke, which then took out the locker? Got pics of the carnage?

how tall is your truck at the frame? At the top of the cab?

For <33’s you should really consider just getting your TTB setup right it will be fine. (I have a SAS’d my ranger).

I'm right at 23.5" at the lowest point of my frame. That's with 35" SSR's (measure 34.5") at street pressure (35 psi). I haven't mesured to the top of my cab, but I don't have a body lift so I'd guess ~ 6' 6" or so.
 
i'm 22" to the bottom of my frame on 38.5s..... front axle is moved pretty far forward though
 
Mines sitting at dead on 24" to the frame on 35's.....lookin to keep the same height and rock 38's as soon as I get the 6.0L swapped. Front axles gonna be moving forwards like 'raiders....
