I have a stock 87 shortblock out of a mustang and would like you guys to give me some of advice. I want to find a set of used gt40p heads and refresh them. I would like to run a parker funnel web intake. Will this work with these heads? Also what would be a good cam to use with this setup? I was thinking a TFS stage 1. Also what size carb and torque converter for c4 with 3:73s out back.

Also i have a set of 1.7 roller rockers can i use these with the gt40p heads stock pistons and what cam will work with out piston to valve clearance issues.

Use you'r 1.7s with the stock H/O cam a 650 carb and 2800 stall.

That is what I am running right now with a stock cam. With 1.7's, an E303 is about tops. My buddy just put a B303 in the GT40P headed Mustang yesterday, and had no PTV issues, but he has 1.6 roller rockers.

If you'd rather not use an alphabet cam, Comp Cams has a "cam selector" to help you out with PTV - or at least they used to. The XE270HR sounds really good! See:

Really now? Then i guess i got screwed hard at Oriellys where i bought the engine and they said it was an 87 mustang. This is the casting numbers what can you tell it is i cant remember how to read them.

That is an 86 casting I believe. Does it have flat top pistons? If it does.... completely scratch the idea of GT40P heads.

Yep, the 6D21 means cast in April 21 of '86'

Those are 87 style pistons. The 86 would not have fly cut pistons. So, I take it this is an Oreilly reman then?

Yea it is. Its only 3 years old and the warranty expired so im gonna turn it into a drag truck now that i got another daily driver. So would the gt40ps work with the 1.6 rockers i have. And a with a TFS stage 1 cam or onther cam. I only paod 60 bucks for them brand new. I coulndnt pass up that deal.

Do you have a pic of the rockers? They are pedestal mount, right? Oh, and that cam should work fine if those are exactly flycut like the 87 pistons.

No i dont at the monent but they are stud mount. Ive read on sbftech.com that i can use stud mounts but i have the get the pedistals milled down and drill and tap for bigger studs. I dont remeber the exact size hole for the pedistal mount bolts but i need a 3/8 stud.

IMHO, you'd be better off making a profit on those rockers you got for 60 dollars and buying pedestal mount rockers.
