loud rattle

I have just picked up a 1988 ford ranger 4x4....2.3lt....I dont know if this is a trans or engine problem...but the truck has a very loud rattle especially at lower rpms while shifting....the truck sat up for a while...i checked fluids before we got it running again just didnt know what the rattle sound was.

the guys in the transmission section helped me with the rattle but said i might need to ask here about the power issue...i have good power from 1 to 3 gears but when i hit 4th gear it starts to bog down and lose rpms i cant speed up, i can only down shift into 3rd to try and pick speed back up...

What size tires and what gear ratio in the diffs?

check fuel pressure the pump may be getting weak.?

I dont know the exact number but i do know it is stock tire size and gears...my dad bought this truck back in the day and he has never changed anything except put some mud tires on it...

does it miss at all when you stand on it ?

no it dosent seem to miss, it idles perfect considering how long it sat up not running (bout 3 years). and will rev up fine at idle..and shows no problem until you try to get enough speed up then shift to 4th then it just starts bogging down

im still thinking check the fuel pressure start it up with a gauge attached see what kinda psi ur pullin rev it up watch the gauge the shut it off and see if the pressure bleeds off .... it shouldent.
