Thank youSometimes a vacuum pump works. Stick an adapter on the top of the reservoir and pull vacuum while moving the wheel lock to lock with the front end up on jacks (engine off). Sometimes you have to crack the lines at the rack and bleed it that way.
It helps to get the tires off the ground first, then yep side to side, but you cant hit the stops or you gotta start over. You can also use a vacuum pump off the top. use the right size rubber cork to fit where the cap goes and pump away.Ok so how the hell do u get air out only way I know how is moving the wheel side to side

I was given a case of royal purple ATF once and refuse to put it in my transmission so I used it to flush the power steering on my ranger (intention was to use the royal purple a few times then refill the final time with motorcraft Mercon V). But the royal purple seemed to work nice and quiet so I kept using it as power steering fluid. To be fair my 2009 never made much noise anyway though, it has a way different pump than earlier rangers (pretty sure it's Japanese since so are the motor and transmission).
What's wrong with royal purple?
I think it lets air in, or is just stressful on the pump. That noise a fully locked steering pump makes sounds to me like its straining. It might be normal, but I'm just weird about some things. On the 4WD Rangers, there's a tiny PS fluid cooler/radiator... like 4 square inches... always amusing.
Do tell... WTHeck evil shyt happens when you hit the stops?... (which are there for a reason)
There is probably a relief valve with bypass route to prevent dead-heading the pump. That is most likely what changes the sound but wouldn’t hurt anything or introduce air.I think it lets air in, or is just stressful on the pump.
