i have a 2000 ranger, when the 4x4 is switched on, there is a loud clunck when the truck starts moving. these sounds keep up with the rotation of the wheels. The truck feels as if the brakes are being applied. It cannot be left in 4x4 it sounds so bad. This truck has hubs that have a 32mm nut, donot look like ones on this forum. I jacked up the front, turned the wheels, the front driveshaft, and axels turn. Truck makes no cluncks with 4x4 in 2h. anybody got a clue. Thanks

sounds like the transfer case chain is slipping bad. ive had the same problem on mine twice now. swap you case with a good used one. and it sounds like someone did an explorer CV axle and hub swap on yours unless its an early model 2001

There are plenty of 2000 Rangers that have the NON-vacuum hubs as mine did. And the build date is Jan 2000. So most likely the original poster does not have the Explorer swap.
