I own a 89' ranger, 2.3L 2wd. recently replaced shoes, drums, cylinders, and lines on the rear brakes and thought all was well, it has been about 2 months. I was parked, i started the truck, went to put the brake in and there was nothing there and i could hear hissing when i tried to put the brakes in, i limped it home, got it up on ramps, and just behind the cab, beside the fuel tank i believe the line is hidden in behind the frame and it was spraying fluid against the tank, ... anyone have any idea as to the easiest way to replace this line, or is it even the line. also i cannot see or even get to it with my hand. Need to know the size so i can purchase a new one (line) and the easiest way to get to it. drop the tank or remove the box or any other soultions. thanks in advance guys

I'd remove the box for easier access.

heres an idea, just get a roll of bulk 5/16' line and some tube nuts, flair tool. then just tape off the end of the line and push it between the frame and the tank untill you see it at the rear side. well its not really a new idea as this is the way its done 95% of the time.

its going to be more trouble then its worth to remove the bed or the gas tank on a truck that old.

well i was thinking of removing the box just based on the fact that in no way can i see the line or the ABS valve, i mean i know where the line terminates but where am i looking for the ABS valve. anfd approximately how long is the line necause i was just gonna buy a pre fabbed length and bend as needed

i couldn't tell you how many rear hard lines i have replaced here in michigan!

my g/f's uncle has a 89, it just blew the rear hard line for the second time.

wow, i've never had problems with my lines in either my 92 or my 94. then again I live in cali.

Just fish a new line along side the tank. I've never seen anyone pull a bed off to replace a body brake line.

i did it today, only took me 3 hours and thats with getting the parts and doing some running around, the line was tucked inside the frame, hidden behind the electrical lines so it was a bugger to get at, so i just removed the box and managed to break every bolt off, but in the end just got a 6' and 3' length lines and coupled them togethor and tucked it inside but is now easier to get at, i guess what happened is the ice build up i got made everything rusted and then really brittle, i ran over a substantial ice block and guess snapped it completely, works great now though and the brakes r better than ever.. thanks for the help though guys, on to the next mod haha
