I was wondering if our engines are supposed to have a lopey Idle or I have something wrong with my coolant sensor or MAF sensor. It has done this for the 2 years that I have owned it. It will do it when you let it sit and Idle for a couple of min. warmed up or cold, other than that it runs just fine, no hesitations or anythinfg like that. I tuned it up when I first got it cause I thought It was the problem and It didnt fix it. And also at times Ill start it and it will idle so poorly that it wont stay running, that only happens maybe twice a month. Im not really worrried about it I just wondered if it is normal. Oh it has 129k miles on it, non egr and has a calibration sticker in the door jam. I was told that it needed calibrated but It already has a sticker.

I cant offer you much advice on how to solve the problem, but none of the motors used in the Ranger idle in a "lopey" manner, and should always idle smoothly without dying. The only way a 3.0 could be "lopey" without having some kind of problem is with a performance cam. Even then I dont think it would be particularly prone to dying.

In short, theres something wrong with it. As for a cause and solution, better let someone else step in for that.
