I recently purchased a 2.5 lt manual ranger and being a mustang 5.o for many years I need some more power out of this four banger. My idea is to hone the upper manifold throttle body opening t-body to accept a 1995 5.0 t-body matted to a 70mm 19lbs mass air meter and a K&N cold air box. 410 gears on a limited slip 8.8. I would like some feedback on whether or not to use a 2” exhaust with or without a catalytic converter. Let me know if I’m crazy.

I'd say you're crazy if you don't just turbo charge it and be done with it...you may need to do some of those other mods anyways...but it would be interesting to know if it works...I've given up on getting too much hp out of myh 2.3 with the carb...unless I win a lottery and can add some significant internal parts I'm just gonna be happy with what it can give...

increasing the TB size will not gain you anything because there is no restriction in the intake track. the restriction is in the head on these motors so if you really want some more power grab a head and really open it up properly.

Yes, opening the head...maybe bigger valves (included with "opening the head") a better cam...bigger exhaust...putting more air into a smaller space requires force...did I mention Turbo...

Yes your right i guess i was using 5.0 mentality any ideas on what up grade cams i might find in the cheap junk yard super markets and what about increasing mass air size and of course i am going to use a header more air in more air out always works

The ranger roller cam that is in there is actually a really good grind for street driving. Again, you don't need to increase the MAF size or the TB size because it will get you nothing, even opening up the exhaust the MAF and TB are still more than large enough. If you want to get any power out of this without going to forced induction then you will need to pull the head and have it machined. With a good machined head and all the intake joints port matched then a good flowing exhaust matched to the head also you will really start to feel the engine liven up.

even a header doesn't get these things much, since the cast manifold is basically a cast header... some even had headers...
