ya know its the damdest thing...the gear install kit i got in today CAME with blue loctite...guess i should send it back and tell them theyre idiots too

yeah im an idiot...you got me

I don't think you realize who you're talking to.

I can vouch for Todd; he torques ring gear bolts to spec. I have also seen some of the diffs Todd was talking about. Blue Loctite was used and the bolts were torqued to spec by experienced mechanics and/or mechanical engineers, and the bolts backed out after several years.

As MAKG said, most if not all pinion nuts come with red already. They put red, not blue on the nut because blue is not nearly strong enough.

And yes, pinion nuts can come loose even with the crimp on the end. It happened to me, although I'm sure you doubt my ability to torque a bolt to spec as well.

I think it's the case that usually you can get away with blue on a ring gear bolt, but it may not do the job and you'll blow up your expensive gears along with all the hard work of setup. Why risk it?

Strange, both of my Yukon kits came with little tubes of the red stuff. But whatever... I think this thread is done now.
