I have a 1988 4x4 ranger 4.0L extended cab. Is their anything I can do to get better than 15 to 17 mpg? thanks

Tune up. Drive slower. Stay off the gas pedal as much as possible.

drive like an old lady in a cadillac
past that im lost

Buy a smart ;) Seriously a good tune up(spark plug, air filter, fuel filter, injectors cleaner, etc) if needed. and drive like an old lady

buy a beater 4cylinder car for $500. it will get 30+ MPG...meaning with gas prices at $3.20/gal it will pay for itself in 4,500 miles (4-5 months for many people).

In case you weren't aware, propane has a lower BTU value per gallon....and it's price has been going up along with all petroleum fuels. I use and maintain a propane buffer at work, it has over 5000 hrs on it now, and the oil stays nice and clean.

?

Ya, I didn't know .

I see alot of rock crawlers powered by it and I know it doesn't contaminate engine oil and has clean exhaust.

Ian and Jesse built one and I thought the exhaust system was realy cool.

i bought a used peice of crap saturn, its been running fine for over 2 years now. I get 30 mpg mixed driving. It has paid itself off twice over now. almost 170,000 on it now.

fresh tune-up, plugs, wires, air&fuel filters. tires fully inflated, carry no extra weight. put a vaccum guage in and try to maintain the highest reading while driving. you could change driveline fluids to synthetics but all in all it is what it is, a 4,300 pound un-aerodynamic brick. you didnt mention a gear ratio, mine has 3.73's and gets 17 pretty consistantly. the best ive gotten was 19. at least its not a F250 with a 351.

i have 2002 supcab 4.0 4x4 i get a flat 16mpg. it doesnt matter if im pulling my fourwheeler on a trailer or not thats what i get. there for a little while was getting 19mpg. but really, i think that the oil campanies are add something to the gas or not putting something in it. which is making gas milages suck for everyone. im glade gas here isnt $3.20 yet. its only $2.71.
