I have a 97 xlt supercab 4.0 std with a 6 ft fleetside box. I'm looking for a camper for this truck. A friend tells me that nobody has made campers for rangers. I think he is full of s**t. What have you guys done for a camper on your ranger?

Camper as in

or

?

Good, I knew it. The top one is what I had in mind. The lower one I call a cap.

When I search the ads, what type or model do I look for that will fit the ranger?

No clue. But that's not a Ranger. That's an F-Series.

I was just checking to see what you meant.. now I shall start the true search.

Nice camper! But 10Gs is a little rich for my wallet.

I will probably have to settle for some old relic abandoned behind Flossy's cow barn.

I am wondering what are the critical dimensions for the camper to fit my truck? I imagine distance between wheel wells is one, and length of the bed portion of the camper is another. How much of the camper can extend past the rear of the bed before handling becomes problematic? I am sure staying within GVW spec is another consideration. Not sure about the over cab part.

I would consider building my owncamper, but experience has taught me that homebuilding is sometimes way more costly than buying used.

Any thought on any of this?

Thanx

Wow, I was looking for a traditional hard sided camper. But the flip top is too cool.

I think I could make one out of my old cap. Looks to be more fuel friendly than the big box type.

Try looking for a camperette maybe too, there are lots of import/midsize campers out there. Some guy down the street from me was selling a camper that would've fit my truck for $500obo. I cut off my overloads and camper brackets though so I can't haul one unless I got new U-bolts and welded new brackets or a belly bar on.
