Looking at F150 Flareside - stick to book value?

Or don't pay more and walk away. Up until a couple years ago the old saying was, "never pay more than book value." Now, it's "a fool and his money are soon parted." Lots of fools out there, with no financial education taking out huge loans on vehicles and instantly being underwater.

I will never pay more than book value, a dealer would never pay ME more than book value on a trade in so why make them rich?
Sometimes though the books dont always keep up with the market. Also depends on how bad the buyer wants that specfic vehicle.

Vehicles are bad investments. If you want it bad enough and can afford it...buy it. Youll never make your money back anyways

Sounds like they've put the 'clean older vehicle in the Salt belt' premium on it.. which IS pure capitalism.. but its also fair and understandable. Nobody would list a vehicle thats in much better shape than the average example for the same money as the average example after all.. why leave the money on the table?

Rare doesn't necessarily mean more valuable either.. as rusty said.. rare could just mean nobody wanted one whenever they were available lol.

The plow setup, regardless of how it was used, would add value..to the right person.

Offer em book value and see what happens 🤷‍♀️ another common thing is for people to put their list price 10-20% higher than what they'll actually take too.. gives them the ability to make the buyer seem like they're getting a good deal by haggling down.. but still getting the price they want. They might immideately say SOLD! with a book value offer. Especially if it's been listed for more than a few weeks.

In this day & age...? When I bought my house 8 years ago, the interest rate would change by the hour at the bank and I went in at a specific time to lock in the lowest rate. You're telling me they can't do that with vehicle values almost a decade later? I don't believe that's the case, my opinion is that car buyers simply don't look at the price anymore. People are so stuck on "what payment can I afford?" rather than "what is the total price?" $500/month looks the same to a lot of people and it doesn't matter if that's a 2 year loan or a 10 year loan.

I pay cash for vehicles and I don't play the monthly payments game. Capitalism works both ways, dealers sucker people into buying cars at way over book and I choose not to participate. :icon_thumby:

Ticking 5.4, run don't walk.

Half ton plow truck with a ticking 5.4, find a moped or something, you can't run fast enough.
