I've been kinda looking for a b2 lately cuz the wife wants one. Thought about puttin my lift on it when I sas and other odds and ends. The big thing she wants is for the top to be removeable.(sp?) is this possible without throwing off structural strength in the body? Thanks guys.

I've never seen one that looked/functioned like it was practical to take on and off. 95% look like hack jobs and the 5% that look half way decent aren't functional. They are either on or off.

If or when I do it I'll take my time and makes sure its done right. Is was just thinking of a way to add strength. Maybe some kind of cage work? But I think it'd be pretty cool to have one.

A cage is pretty much required, even for a chop top. Over time the body seems to want to sag in the middle.

As far as a removable top goes.... lets say that I'm preparing to experiment with it but it may not work out. Your best bet would likely be to chop it, cage it, and get a soft top made for it. That's the easy way out (and my choptop is going to be getting a soft top, I'm only playing around with a hard top because I have one to play around with).

If your set on having a removable hard top, your best bet would be to look for an Early Bronco or a fullsize Bronco. Unless you want to try your hand at a good bit of fab work.

A bit dangerous if not done correctly. I saw an accident many years ago in Ocala when a guy and his fiancé killed in a BII that had the back area cut out. They had a custom canvas type cover on it (like for a pickup truck) It came out really nice. It was made by a guy who made custom boat covers. Several people told the owner to a least put a roll cage in the back area for support but he did not want to (too much hassle he said). We had seen them several times before and they joined us for a camp out now and then and they went boating with us a few times. They were like us….animal lovers to the end!!!
The one weekend we will always remember was seeing that BII flip over going up a steep him just a bit too fast. It rolled about 5-6 times and they both got thrown out and I will never forget seeing that. They were such nice loving people. Just be safe if you are going to cut out that area. I know it looks great (like the earl Broncos and the next gen Broncos that had the removable hard tops. Just think safety first!!!
