ya ive been thinkin bout it and i think i want to start dropping money down to get some better bass, my buddy of mine is sellin to 2 6" subs for $50 idk if that includes the boxs but im new to the whole car audio thing. i just recently spent like 250 on 4 new pioneers speakers, they sound good on my stock system over the paper shits that were in there, i would still like to keep my stock system atm but just add some more bass or pounding u know? :icon_thumby:

i know im going to need an adapter of some sort for the stock head unit to still be used. and i believe im going to need an amp as well to drive the subs just dont know what to look for

help will be nice please.

thanks :icon_cheers:

Idk if 6"subs will be worth the money when you buy a 2 channel amp to power them. The 6x8's should put out some bass pretty well, what model did you get that cost 250 for 4 speakers? Still using the stock head unit? If you are, that should be your next purchase, in my opinion. Aftermarket head units sound twice as good as stock, especially if paired with aftermarket speakers, and they make it easy to set up subs and amps later on. Just my opinion though.

Edit: now i see that your truck is an 05, so you might have a pretty nice stock head unit (compared to my 2000). A four channel amp to power your 6x8s as they are will help sound quality, and if you want subs i dont think you'll be happy with the 6" subs, those are more like midwoofers, and i have 6.5" mids that put out a lot of bass, but nothing like a good 8" sub and amp, not even close to 10s or 12s. how much are you looking to spend?

thanks for the quick response :icon_thumby:

the speakers i brought were from best buy at the time around xmas they were 110 or somthing like that,

they got them marked down to 80 now dam. lol o well

im lookin to try and stay as cheap as possible, ya the 6x8's have some good bass to them but after sitting in some friends trucks that have that extra subwoofer, i just want to get one :)

the head unit in my truck is nice, has a cd player, with tape player which i use the tape player for hookin up my mp3 to its just the black combo unit

yeah i have the same 6x8s in my rear doors. I would suggest you listen to what your buddies have, like you have, and compare the different setups you hear. Obviously it wont be the same as in a ranger if its in something like an explorer because the explorers have more space=better sound (usually). But you can find out how much watts you want to run and what size subs you desire. Do you want sound quality or loudness?

oh man you bought pioneers, if you were gonna shell out that kinda cash you could have bought high end mbquartz component sets. They are amazing but a lil pricey... 220 bucks. Anyway the 6" woofers going to have similar bass to your pioneers so its not worth it. Lemme know how much you wanna spend on your sub alone and I can go looking.

2x

i had half of that typed up, then got side tracked lol

but 6's and 8' give really punchy bass, unless there in a big box, and dont really go down that low in the freq's if you want small light full bass sound and small id at least deal with a 10 inch. all yyou really need is one,

where are you located i have a sub i am looking to sell its a JL 12W3 2 ohm duel voice in a wedge box. It fit behind my seat in my extended cab 03 i am 5'8 but i put my seat back pretty far and had not issues with room.

there is place to sell stuff....this is not it

It all really depends on what kind of music you listen to...and if you're a show off or not. I had 3 8" JBLs in my 92 and they sounded sick when I put metal and hard punk through them because they picked up the double kicks and made them suuuuuuuuper crisp. But if you listen to rap (for some reason) than 10's or 12's will pound so hard and they will make heads turn because you'll hear them 100 feet away. Also read up and learn how to tune your amp...I spent three hours just tuning my amp on my 12's to get them crisp and pound hard.

well i mostly listen to metal, and rock from time to time rap

i would like the sound to be clear, crisp and not loud. lookin to keep it under $400

ahahahahahahhaaaa oh man I hate pyramid and I've only seen pyle in my partsexpress catalog. They never really impressed me at all especially since those numbers aren't real.

okay well, does anyone have more educated response then that?

honestly, rjp is just telling the truth.

he is very educated in this kind of thing... don't demean his knowledge lol, that won't get you very far.

he's just saying that it's hard to trust "off brands" because you will never achieve their advertised numbers

it's just the reality of the fact.

IMHO, you should keep saving up money, be diligent about it, and save up for some name brand equipment, and know that you have quality stuff that will probably sound WAY better
