What it needs is the lithium ion battery pack and an enhanced electric drive. The Tesla Corporation developed an electric sports car that does 0-60 in 3 sec. and has a driving range of 200 miles!!!! AND it recharges with either a 230v or a 110v plug in. I think it can recharge from zero to full in under 3 hours.
Now, put ALL that into a Ranger and we may just have something.
See, we have the capabilities to run electric at long distances, its just that no one is really funding the needs.

Do you have any idea how much gasoline you can buy for $20grand?
Even at $4/gal that 5000 gallons of gas.
5000gallons of gas will propel a "typical" ranger ~100,000 miles
AND you'll still need to pay your electric bill for charging it.
Frankly I'd like to know if they mounted the batteries in the back (for traction)
or in the empty engine bay (for convenience) because if the engine bay is empty I have a cute little 4cyl water cooled Kohler generator that would "sorta" fit in a ranger engine bay....
IDKCould it be the oil companies won't let it happen????
