Look at what I got

I just got a little more to remove from the Explorer, then it's off to the scrapper next week, they are closed all this week, then I got some rust issues I have to take of on the Ranger.

Also update on the Mustang, the Grandson came to look at it, and didn't like the Color, so the tractor paint is out,:yahoo: He is going to get me a good Epoxy Primer,:yahoo: and then he is looking into the House of Kolors paint,:icon_confused: he wants to paint it a Mo-par Orange:icon_rofl: but it's his money so I'll paint it any color they want.:D

Thanks Guys for the Encouragement on the Ranger, it helps.

Robert

house of kolors was real big in the late 90's-early 2000's

its good paint. still used today but not as much as they used to.

its good automotive urethane.

Well, it got up to the 60's today, so I was able to work on my Ranger a little.

I tried cleaning the engine up, had to run to town and get one of the funny tools to remove the fan, and after that I found why this thing was covered in oil, the valve over bolts where all loose, took them all out by hand, the main intake manifold bolts where loose also, I'm surprised this thing even ran, but it did, and it didn't smoke.

also got the rear end back under my Ranger, and dang is it low.

Yep, I'm going to have to flair the bed sides out, and these are not the tires I'm going to run, I have a set of 235/75/15's to put on the Mustang wheels, so that will bring it up a little in the back.
Do you think this is a little to close ?!?!?

While I was cleaning the engine up, I got to thinking, I'm going to check and see how much it would cost to have the valve covers chromed, OR have them powdered coated chrome, I know, Chrome don't get you home,, But hey I want it to look pretty, and also I think I'm going to have the engine painted a Royal Blue.

Well, Finally a update, and when I went to post up some pictures, it took me over 30 minutes to find my post, but any how here I is, and here are some pictures of what little work I have gotten done it the last two days.

Remember the hole in the floor

all welded in

also I for got to take a picture, but right behind the driver side door, all the way on the bottom, was pretty rusted out, and a little over 1/4 think of bondo, here's the picture of new metal welded in
100_0502.jpg

I also worked a little on the core support, I knew it was rusty, but not this bad.

Cut out the rusted parts

I also found a ouchy, I don't know if I'm going to replace the side panel or not, just depends on how I feel.

Lucky the frame isn't bent, and unlucky, I had cut the bottom or the core support off the 92 Explorer, I thought I could use it and graft them together, well that isn't going to work, so now I'm on the hunt for a new to me core support, and I would hate to go to Pull-A-Part and have to drill out 50 million spot welds trying to get a good one.

Well this all for now, hope fully I can get more done to the truck and do more updates.

Also I forgot to add, the Mustang never got finished, I removed the front fenders, and the frame was really badly rotten out, and the cheap a** owners didn't want to pony up for new metal, so it was hauled back to their house, and they traded it for a 66 F100, and never told the person about the rot problem, but it's out of my hands so I ain't going to worry about it, if they get sued later, that them and not me.

Also if anyone has a Good Core support for a first gen Ranger laying around that they could sell me for the cost of shipping, please, please, please let me know.

Robert

there is not really that many spot welds. get a $5 spot weld cutter from HF and you will be done in one day tops. I just did it on a b2 not even 2 weeks ago.

Well, I'm going to try a flog this dead horse back to life.

OK, here is a small update, I got a new to me, no rust rad support, pretty darn cheap at Pull-A-Parts, I don't have it welded in yet, I'm going to wait till have the engine in and some other mods that will require that it isn't in.

Here's the deal, some of you might know that I got a 95 T-bird from another forum that I was asking about the 4.6 and so forth, well, after finding out about how much WIDER the 4.6 is compare to a 5.0, I gave up on the T-bird, traded it for a....... wait for it....

75 Mustang II with a factory 5.0 auto and air conditioner, the car runs like a scalded bat out of Hades, don't smoke, and the trans works like a charm.

The car it self looks OK, it's a coupe, has fantastic seats, so those are going in to the Ranger.

If anyone wants to know how scary a ride can be and ONLY have 140hp (according to Ford) try doing 75 and 80 on a curvy road with 185/70/13 tires and wheels, I'm still waiting for the left one to fall, and now the great driver seat has a pucker hole in the middle of it.

I do have one question that I need some advice on, the Mustang has to me is a perfect alternative front suspension for lowering a first Gen Ranger rather then spending a bunch of money I don't have for drop beams.

What do you all think of doing a front frame clip on the Ranger off the Mustang II frame??? like the way the do the old cars and trucks with the nova/camaro front clip.

I'm thinking of cutting the Rangers frame a few inches back from all the brackets that hold the main part of the twin I beam, and welding the front part of the Mustang II frame to the Ranger, this way all the motor mounts will be where they need to be and I can lower the truck with out a bunch of money and still be able to get a good ride and wear pattern.

I'll get some pictures of the stang II in the morning, right now I'm tired and cold.

posted with stiff fingers and a runny nose.

the mustang II front suspension is actually used quite a bit on mini trucks, what exactly they do to make it work i dont know but i have seen quite a few of all makes and models list the mustang II suspension as a mod so i would assume its fairly easy

Those are a kits based on the Mustang II setup, my friend has a 50 chevy that he is building, and it has a Mustang II front end, it doesn't look a thing like the 75 Mustang II hardware, but it was a kit that had to be welded together.

I found someone who can cut the frame for me and weld them back and he does the Nova/Camaro front clip all the time on the old trucks/cars.
