I have a rather funny story for you all. Last week I was testing out a throttle body I rebuild for my 4.0L along with my homemade 1" throttle body spacer. I have only been driving the truck for a short time and have always had a bed full of crap. This particular day was the first time I had a clean bed and the truck was at its lightest. I decided to hop on the highway and see how well my newish throttle body and spacer were working. I stomped on the pedal and began slamming through gears and before I knew it I had burried the needle doing well over the displayed 85mph. Things were going great until out of the corner of my eye I noticed my rear windshield go competely black. Upon further turning of my head I noticed my bed liner was now flying through the air right up near the tree tops. I was moving soo fast that I lost sight of it quickly and I pulled over into the break down lane to assess the situation. As I looked back in aw to see if anyone hit the liner, another truck S-10 stopped behind me and started to back up very fast down the breakdown lane. I didnt know why this guy would be doing this unless he was going to take my liner. So like an idiot I backed up as well. I got all the way back to the liner and saw it laying in the dirt on the side of the highway. It seemed that nobody had hit it. But that wasnt all that was sitting on the side of the highway. There was now a state trooper parked next to my bed liner. The officer was in plain clothes and seemed to be very angry as he stepped out of his cruiser and slammed his door. At this point I also notice the remnats of Duck tape flapping in the breeze where the bed liner meet the top of the bed sides. The officer proceeded to yell at me to stay in my car and to gather the usual licence and registration etc. He took my papers and yelled at me for backing down the highway. He also noticed the lovely duck tape and asked what was up with that. I told him that I had no clue who put it there because I never did. I explained to him that the truck had always had weight in the back and I did not know it wasnt anchored down since I had recently come into ownership of the truck. When asked why I illigally backed down the highway, I told him that I was concerned that this man in his S-10 was backing down to steal my bed liner and that my intention was to get off the highway and come back around to make sure nobody hit it and cause a accident. He proceeded to the S-10 driver and took his papers and went to sit in his cruiser. Eventually he came back and let the S-10 driver go then came to me and seemed a little nicer this time. He told me that he would let me off with a warning and said that I could have been fined and had my truck impounded for my actions. He was nice enough to help me put the liner back in my bed. Luckily I had a ratchet strap in the cab to hold it down until I could fashion something a little more perminent.

Well long story short, the bed liner is extremely secure thanks to some half inch hardware and my rebuilt throttle body and spacer work amazing.

Lesson of the day.....Duck tape has many uses, in this case dont try holding in the bed of your truck and then sell the truck to people with out telling them how dumb you are, if you happen to find a use for it in another type of bed then more power to ya!!! You know, if your into that sorta thang.

wow good thing no one got hurt, congrats on the rebuild and spacer any pics of your work.

I had mine fly off too. I was going about 45-50mph on a gravel road and I heard a whoosh and the truck slowed down a little. I checked the mirrors to see what the heck happened only to see the bedliner parting ways with my truck. It flew over the ditch and fench into the grass strip going around a soybean field. I slammed on the skidders because I didn't want to loose track of it not knowing how far it would fly, and after it landed backed up to the nearest field entrance and retrieved it.

The landing crushed the driverside corner a little, it popped back out. I drove home at 20mph with my arm out the back window to hold it in. After that I put two 3/8" bolts in the front with triangular tiedown loops to hold it in, and I have since added a rollbar on top of that.

Glad you got off with a warning...they can be real sticklers sometimes..

this may sound dumber than duct tape, but when I had my cap I didn't have the bed liner that came with my new truck...when I went to put the two together, I found there was no way to secure a cap AND use a bedliner easily...soooooo...I, yes, I, cut four holes in the bedliner thinking I would always have the cap...

They are not BIG holes, mind you...just enough to get a cap clamp through...but without the cap they are pretty noticeable...

Over the rail? My dad got a topper for his truck and it came with a under the rail bedliner. It didn't need any holes cut in it for the clamps and doesn't take up the space that my over the rail bedliner does.

This is one more reason why I prefer spray-in liners. So was the S10 guy actually trying to steal your liner? What did the cop say about him?

can we get some cliffs?

I wouldn't even have it but it came in my parts truck. I put it so it would cover up ugly screw holes from the 1980's bed rail bedrail fencing stuff that it had on at one point. I wouldn't even have my spray-in in my F-150 if it didn't come with it.

lol sorry for the long story. I just needed to put it all out there. The cop said that the S-10 guy was reversing to secure the liner and to help me put it back in my truck. When i saw him start backing up the first thing that i noticed was that he didnt have a bed liner so the first thing in my head was " yea, hes gona try to steal it" so i started right after him. There use to be a ladder rack on my truck and there were 3/8" lag bolts just pushed into some clearances hole acting like pins i guess. The previous owner had some serious budget rigging holding the truck accessories on. I kinda feel like finding him and slappin him around for putting duck tape under the liner, but sinces he's family I'm gona have to let it slide.

Here is a snap shot of the throttle body spacer I made. I didnt have time to machine the flutes into it. There is just a 66mm hole bored through the center. A had to do it manually because the CNC machine at my office isout of order otherwise I would have put some nice flutes for a spiral action.
