ok so i can fix most things automotive ie motoer swaps pulling transmissions even custom stuff....npw can somebody please explain about axle gears ie is 4.10s higher than 3.73s or what its silly but yeah i never learned

Numerically higher, yes. The number is the ratio of pinion to ring gear (tire) rotations. A 4.10 ratio means the pinion must rotate 4.1 times for one rotation of the ring gear. This will yield a slower speed at the same RPM as say a 3.73 gear.

The higher the number on the gears, the lower the ratio.

its also terrible for gas milage, my ranger has 4:10, the first 4000k i get about 12mpg

I took the 4.10's put 3.73's in but I also have V8 in mine too:D

I have 3.73's and I'd happily trade em for 4.10's. With oversize tires they're doggy...

Something is broken. There are plenty of guys here with 4.10 gearing that get 20+ mpg every day.

so a numerically higher gear ie a 4.56 compared to a 4.10 is bewtter for turning larger tires say a 35 and it will do it to about the same factory rpms as the 4.10 running stock size 245's?

well yes but if you wanna be back to stock with a 4.0 and 35s, 4.88 gears are recommended. as for 4.56 gears, youd run 33s.

Now you have the right idea .
