i have a 91 ranger with a 8.8 rear. the 8.8 has 3L73 on the tag so i know it has a limited slip. does anyone make a drop in locker that will work with the LS carrier? thanks

Nobody make a drop in lunch box locker for an LS carrier. Need to find a open carrier to make it work.

Post up a part number...everywhere I look on the Richmond site is says nothing as to any of them fitting in a L/S Carrier. So give it up!

Good find. It's also worth dropping Jim a line - if he can get the No-Slip, he might be a few dollars cheaper than Reider. Including shipping, his price is a little better on the Lockrights.

If you have the limited slip, why go locker? Its my understanding the LS works like a locker but not fulltime locked and no air required. Seems it would be a god balance for street/dirt truck

Yeah but if the clutches get worn you might as well have an open diff. Instead of replacing the clutches just pop a locker in and don't worry about it.

Kol didnt know that, if your still on, Ill be in knox this weekend and ill prolly come pick up those axles if you still wanna get rid of them, assuming the other guy didnt buy them. But I can prolly roll in friday close to 430 if you need me too. WHat can you tell me bout your d35, what all have you done to it. Have you replaced any bearings or seals? Will it hold up to the welded hubs you had on there? I dont need to fragment another front end. Should I just pick up more autos fro the jY? Also what gears did you say it had, and do the front rear gears match still? Is it relatively aligned or do I need to do that again on install?

a locker and a LS are two totally different animals. "limited slip" will do just that....slip. sure it is better than an open diff but it is not near a good as a locker when it comes to making both wheels pull.

this truck will be used 99% off road. it is my farm/hunting truck and a rear locking diff would be a benefit for how i will use it.

Besides being a wear item, a limited slip is completely different. The locker in question is an automatic locker and needs no air or electricity to activate it. The axles are mechanically locked together unless the ground pulls one tire along faster than the other tire--as in the outside tire in a turn. The outside tire will disengage itself from power so it doesn't drag around the corner.

A limited slip resists, but if you lift a tire, you're stuck. there is still a differential in there. There are definately advantages to LS. Hell, there are advantages to an open axle traction-wise. For instance, crossing a slippery slope an open axle is the best. I prefer an auto locker and to live with the quirks. If someone else took care of my vehicle for me, I would prefer a selectable.
