ok i do lite to moddret off roading. i had ls and i liked it. but i hade to watch it when it would rain. i am very rough on my truck to. what is the best for my money? 8.8 is the rear end size. nothing over 400.00 thanks

your having problems with an l/s in the rain with a 2.9?

and are wondering if you actually want a locker?

With a LS 8.8, the only option is a No Slip. Check TRS Fab and Offroad for a price.

You will have to watch it all the time though with a locker if you had to watch out with your LS/2.9 in the rain.

If you want it to do well on wet pavement, but also have great off road capability, you need a selectable locker. The two good options for the 8.8 are the ARB air locker and the Eaton E-Locker. However both will run far over 400 bucks.

get a junk yard open carrier and a used lock right.you can slip in under 400$.i believe the part about the rain my old 2.9l and an open diff were squirrely as hell on the on and off ramps in the rain.theres not much weight in the back of these trucks.

Just how 'hard' are you on the truck in the rain?? my 4.0, 3.73LS is only squirly in the rain if I WANT it to be..

:d :d :d

well at the moment i have a 2.9 with a open diff. but i did have ls and yea it was dangrous in the rain. same ratio as your rear end. i got the hang of it and used to my adavantge :D:D:D. i love drifting around . when it would start to go if i was turning i just go with it. lol kinda like 4 wheel stearning! the 91 explorer i just got for my swap has ls in it so i am happy for now! the swap will begin soon cant wait to have a 4.0 :D :D

hell those things can get squirrelly when its dry out:woot:

I don't know. I've had a Lockright in my truck since it was a stock Ranger 4.0 5-speed--2002 I think. I've never had any trouble in the rain or snow. I guess if your heads up your ass you could have some wild experiences. Having the heavy B2 body eliminates any trouble with the Lockright in the rear--a B2 is very nearly 50/50 weight distribution. I don't even hear it anymore since I went to a B2 body, let alone feel it. It just works and I'm happy.

It all depends on how you drive. That is what I was trying to get at in the first place. and yes my truck can be squirly on the dry pavement, but I'm too broke to put new rubber on........:icon_cheers:

i here that about new rubber. i put ew tires on my truck and it broke me $650.00. i was eating noodles for weeks to save a little cash agin lol it sucked!! the explorer i just got has ls but also has about 200.000 miles on the ls how much longer will it last? thanks guys

+1

I continually get a kick out of people being surprised/whatever when the backend does something unusual. You are the one driving! pay attention to road conditions and what you are asking the vehicle to do. I'm with you, 07' the back end only get squirly when I ask it to.

gee i wonder who my good buddy will aimed that one at, lol.did you never notice how light the first and second gen trucks are in back.the short sharp cornered on ramps where i live you are lucky if you get 55 mph by the time you are merging with traffic going 70-75, you have to get on it.i don't bring my truck around in circles its just easy to tell at least one tire spins if you give it over half throttle.i don't care if you like me or not will i think you might be the one sitting on your keyboard or your head
