lock the front or no?

i've seen it done sucessfully several times and it snows here and most of the roads are pretty curvy. the trick is to only use the front when youre offroad.

If you never lock the front hubs in on the road I say go for it!!

Locking one hub works when offroad if your having trouble either steering or taking tight corners. Mine has fw d44/9" spooled front and rear on 38's and steers no problems as far as power steering goes, 86 BII with 92 Sploder box and pump.

Locked front can make tight turning a little more challenging some times but it's well worth the locked front on the trail imo. I've had my last 5 rigs with front either welded or spooled and won't go back to open front on my wheelers ever again. Trail performance and how much easier you can climb stuff is night and day better.

Actually the Yukon mini spool I bought for the d44 was just under a hundred bucks.

No doubt a selectable would be better but when money isn't there, you gotta do what you gotta do.

If your ready to take your rig to the next level of trail ability, locked front is certainly a way to do it.

Don't listen to the naysayers. driving a front & rear spooled truck in less than ideal conditions is no more dangerous than an open diff 2wd.

I've seen a truck spooled front and rear firsthand and it didn't steer worth a fawk on gravel, let alone snow. I have no problems with front and rear lockers, but you can keep the spools/Lincoln lockers.

I wouldn't spool/weld a front and I'd avoid a true trac, they don't make parts for them so if you break a tooth/gear it's pooched unless you can re-machine it!

Having a locker up front helps HUGE, and actually makes steering a lot better in a lot of cases on the trails, especially in the greasy stuff.
