I decided to finally upgrade the horrible sounding factory speakers in my 92 Honda Accord. The speakers in the front doors were originally 5 inch speakers. And when I say 5 inch, I'm not talking about 5 1/4" (which is a very common speaker size), I'm talking about 5 inch. Great job Honda  Therefore, instead of picking through a very limited selection of 5 inch speakers, I bought a set of 4 inch Pioneers that I would try to make fit. Well, they fit....sorta.

The mounting holes were actually close enough so that I could reuse the stock holes in the door. The only problem I have now is there is a gap all the way around the speaker, and the speaker doesn't seal up against the door. As a result, I have no bass and the speakers are just not as loud/efficient as they should be.

I need to fabricate something to seal the speakers. It needs to be cheap and easy. I don't care what it looks like (it's gonna be hidden behind the door panel anyway) and I don't care if it's slightly ghetto. This is a very "budget-y" build. Only have about $210 invested so far in head unit and 4 speakers  And it sounds AWESOME, except for this front speaker problem I'm having. I can't wait for this problem to be fixed. :headbang:

I was thinking about using cardboard or rubber cut out in a circle and tape/glue it to the door, but there's gotta be some better way. Suggestions?

some masonite or 1/8 inch plywood cut out right around the speaker might work. maybe seal the speaker to the wood/masonite with silicone or gorilla glue. (if you think its worth the time).

edit: dont use tape or glue it to the door. cut the wood to the size of the original speaker mounting holes then cut the new speaker size out (doughnut) predrill the original mounting holes in the new cutout. (it may be a very skinny doughnut so i dont know how well it will work)

you can easily make your own speaker adapter. id use .5" mdf. trace the original 5" speaker and mounting holes on the mdf. then cut out a mounting hole for your new 4" speakers. a hobby size sheet of .5" shouldnt run you very much. to make sure it seals up real good you could use some non hardening modeling clay.

Should be 6.5" speakers in the front doors. I've never seen a honda accord with 5" speakers.

No they are definitely 5" speakers. I know what 6.5" speakers look like and these are definitely smaller. I also definitely wouldn't have been able to use the stock mounting holes with my 4" speakers. They're even smaller than the 5.25" speakers I have in my Ranger. Even Crutchfield says that I have 5" speakers in there.

Anyway, I managed to seal up the speakers in a super-ghetto but effective way. It's actually so ghetto-ed I'm kinda embarassed to say exactly how I did it. It sounds awesome. :yahoo:

i thought something was weird cause every accord ive seen has had 6.5's but did some research and you have the one with the factory boss unit. glad to hear you got it sounding good tho
