Lines from gear box to Rack.....update.....help !!!!

Hi all, I have a 1998 Ranger SC w/ 3.0 4x4. I noticed I have a leak in 1 0f the 2 hard lines going from the gear head to the steering rack. Both lines looked rusted up so I drained the fluid and removed them. Now the problem, were can I find the lines? Were do I get fittings. D o they need to be made up custom with the bends and all? Thanks, Mike

Your local parts store will have pre-bent lines specifically for your truck. It will probably include the fittings.

I went to 3 parts stores with no luck. They said I would have to buy the whole rack as they dont come alone.:annoyed:

Really? These are the lines you're looking for right?

They're Napa part #72949 and 73038, respectively.

Your parts store guys are idiots. I've never seen a rack that came with the lines. They didn't look them up right. Unless you men the lines that run from one part of the rack to another, not the ones from the pump to the rack. The hard lines would have to be part of the rack, unless you were able to buy bulk brake tubing and bend your own.

Ok.....update. I had a local mechanic bend and flare the lines for me. Ended up using the old fittings. Now I have another problem when I start the truck nothing leaks, thats good but when I touch the steering wheel it starts going nuts. Steering back and forth very violently. I turn off the truck it stops:icon_confused: Start the truck back up idles fine, touch the wheel it goes nuts. :icon_confused: I did not touch anything but the 2 hard lines from rack to gear head. Could they be crossed? or is it new rack time? Mike
