That is a good welder. I have an old AC/DC Lincoln that is old as dirt and still works great.

$75, nice....i need to start huntin around here for a welder myself.......i dont have any tips as i only ever welded a few times during college, good luck!

thanks thats good to kno its a good one should be good enuf for making a sturdy set of bumpers and what ever else i can come up with

You can weld just about anything you want with that old buzz box. Sheet metal is a bit of a challenge but a 6013 3/32" rod running around 50 to 60 amps would be a good starting point. I used to use mine for everything until I got my first mig, which makes sheet a lot easier. Have fun practicing.

cool ill have to try that thanks i wanted to be able to do a lil body work but idk i might get a cheapo mig for that cuz im kinda a cheapo my self haha. is it harder to strike an arc with that rod and amps?

very simple mistake, but Most ARC welders are DC. Because (no offense) yours is a little cheaper, its AC.. Be sure to get rods made For AC...i have never used an AC arc, but i have heard they can make quality welds, justa little harder....
I would get 6010AC and 7018AC... with a 6010, use a whip and pause, whip foward a bit and back, pause,,, with the 7018 its a steady drag.. The 7018 will be prettier, but if your doing something like a T joint ide use the 6010 for penetration.......

6010 is a DC rod. You'll want a 6011 in an AC machine.

Also known as a "Farmers" rod the 6011 is intended for use as a root pass with a cover pass put over top. The 6011 will usually not give a pretty or smooth pass like a nice 7018 but its good and strong and easy to use.

For thin sheet metal Eastwood sells some rods that they claim will work but I haven't used them.

A mig is only good for thin stuff if you have the shielding gas and that means getting a contract or buying a bottle. I've had the contract for years and its kind of expensive if you don't use it that much.

I bought a small argon bottle for just that reason. I plan on using it for alum. and steel, that's why 100% argon. co2 is lots cheaper. The bottle alone was C$215.00 Fittings and gauges were swap-meet finds, I think totaled C$60.00

LOL I got the smaller version of that and I got mine brand new for $100.00:yahoo:

good find, its hard to beat an old tombstone for learning the basics. ACs are great machines, they just lack the rod selection that a DC or AC/DC (no pun inteded) unit has. if you want to find charts on rods sizes and metal thicknesses try searching AWS (american welding society) hand book. when i was in school i got a booklet that had easy to read charts (cheat sheets if you will), but i have since then misplaced mine.
