limited slip to posi

if its posi now, your clutches are fried. replace them and it will fix it

You think so? I'm actually at a toss up. Too much mud caked on the corners and the top I can't see. The only thing I can clearly (kinda) see is the bottom. The 8.8" diff cover has a slight curve on the bottom where as the 7.5" is completely straight on bottom. Post the 2 digit code.

I was going to say 7.5 just like my 3.0 Edge untill I went back and saw it was a 4x4 so it probably is the 8.8, door tag will tell. Just where abouts in Wisconsin are you at? I'm here in Stevens Point and Gotta_gofast is down Southern Wisconsin somewhere. Best thing is to get one of the "N0-Slip" lockers made by Richmond gear. Do in your driveway with no gear set-up. Got the instruction here if you want to see what is involved.

Milton Wisconsin here! The initial cost of a powertrax no-slip is going to be between $400-$500 depending on the rear end. The trac-lok is going to be about $225. Since you're having a hard time figuring out what axle you have, I'm going to assume you do not know how to set the backlash properly (which will ruin your day). This means that in order to install the cheaper trac-lok, you must pay somebody the labor. This will put you up to about the cost of the no-slip. However, the no-slip guarentees that you will not have one-wheel spin, even if one wheel is suspended off the ground! The trac-lok will not do this. The no-slip can be installed without taking the carrier out of the differential in a couple hours with no special tools needed. So, you can spend the money on cheaper parts & labor costs or just spend the money on better parts!

7.5" Powertrax no-slip P/N = PWT-92-0675-2805 (open case)

8.8" (28spline) Powertrax no-slip P/N = PWT-92-0688-2807 (open case)
8.8" (28spline) Powertrax no-slip P/N = PWT-92-0688-2827 (limited slip case)

8.8" (31spline) Powertrax no-slip P/N = PWT-92-0688-3108 (open case)
8.8" (31spline) Powertrax no-slip P/N = PWT-92-0688-3127 (limited slip case)

EDIT: Do not purchase the cheaper Powertrax lock-rite as these are sometimes known to have rougher street manners.

Well I really didn't want to say where you're from, left that up to you. It's not that hard to do. Had one in my 2000 4x4 for over 30K miles one it with no problem. Pull the axles out, remove the spider gears and put the new unit it. Not working so I thought I'd practice my drawing skills. Here's kind of what you have.

if its a open 8.8, get a diff out of a mustang and throw in it. you can get get em anywhere for 20-50 bucks.

pretty sure most stang 8.8's are posi. all the ones ive ever seen or rebuilt are.the only one wheelers ive run across were rangers and mark VIII's

then why did you just say no

mattchow88 seems to have limited mechanical experience so I would strongly suggest that he NOT swap out the carrier from a Mustang into his truck. That would require him to remove the ring gear from his carrier and install it to the Mustang carrier which involves setup, at the very least checking backlash.
