I was wondering if adding a trac loc spring /limited slip to my existing carrier will make it a limited skid rear end or are there other parts that are needed?

Clutches and plates

If it is and open diff you can install a lunch box locker.

I dont think placing a spring inside the differential is a good idea... it would most likely damage the gears.

But they are special differential springs.

An LS carrier has cutouts for the ears of the steels and the side gears have spline snouts for engaging the clutches. too. You can't just slap LS parts into an open carrier or it would be much more common.

But you can a lunchnox.

And unlike a trac Lok.....they are not useless....and cost less.

Differentials are their own special kind of hell. Worth the effort to get what you want but the setup is a SOB. Look up Eric the car guy on youtube when he regeared his 8.8” for his Ford Fairmont (about 3 years ago). Frustrating as hell.

If you go to install a locker or limited slip other than what Bobby is recommending, that is what you are going to look forward to.

If you want a limited slip on the cheap/easy you can look for another axle with the same gearing as what you have but with limited slip. Make sure it is in good shape and swap it in.
