Can't find any info so I'll have to ask. 06. 4x4 4.0 8.8 rear with 4 10 gears. Nothing on the tag about limited slip. Is it or not? Will it hurt to add the modifier if its not an LS?

No, modifier won't hurt an open diff. You can find the axle information on the sticker on the door frame.

A 2006 8.8 with 4.10 limited slip would be listed as "R7".

Another way to check is to jack up both rear wheels. Spin one tire, if the other tire spins in the opposite direction it's an open diff. If the other tire spins the same direction it's limited slip.

All axle codes are listed here.

Mine has different numbers ajd its too late for me to remember right now. Lol I went ahead and put the modifier in. That thing is a thirsty bitch. 2 quarts and the modifier and its still low. Lol

Have the owners manual? That would tell you how much it needs.

Fill till it comes out of the plug, that's the fluid capacity. :icon_thumby:

If your parked on a hill or have the truck jacked up where the diff is angled it will overfill, need to do it while level. If I recall, mine takes like 2 and a quarter quarts.

I’m recalling this completely from memory at the moment since I’m not home. I believe my 2011 calls for 2.8 quarts. But the tubes are bigger. So, the capacity may be bigger as a result.

The recommendation of filling it until it comes out the fill hole is a good one. As noted above, make sure the truck is level or you can over fill it or under fill it depending on the angle.

do a burnout, 2 tire marks means posi.

Ford means not posi. If you want to talk about posi go here.

With both rear tires off the ground, engine off & trans in neutral turn either tire by hand, observe the other tire; if tires turn same way it's probably a Ford limited slip Traction Lok. If they turn opposite it's an open diff. If it's been modified with aftermarket parts the burnout suggestion sounds like fun.
