I have a switch to control my electric cooling fan so when I go through deep water I can shut the fan off. What I want to do is, have a red indicator light come on when the cooling fan switch is off telling me, "ha stupid, your cooling fan is off". Any ideas on how to do this? :icon_confused:

Pictures and diagrams go a long way in my world.....

You could use an illuminated switch but those are usually illuminated when the switch is On (which is the opposite of what you're after).

Sounds like a new euphemism for "not all there" "The light is on, but the switch is off"

I would say that Bronco638 has a pretty good solution tho. glance at the switch, and if it isn't lit, you ain't coolin'.

That is an okay solution but the point of the light is to bring attention to it. If the light is off it is not a reminder.
The solution would be to use a five prong relay. It is just like a four prong relay but the center prong will have power when the device is turned off. Just use the center prong to power an indicator light.

For starters the switch I am using is an arming switch, like the ones you see on a NASCAR dashboard, so there are no lights in or on the switch. So when the switch is off the cover is up, when it's on the cover is down.

I like the relay idea, I had planned to use a relay between the switch and the fan anyway. BUT, if the center prong is live all the time then how do you turn the light off? or is the center prong only live when the switch is off... that would make sense.

Thanks,

J

So it's sort of like the red "Standby" light on electronics to let you know there's power going to the device and such with green being "powered on", so a dead light would let you know a fuse is blown, etc.? Makes sense to me.

I ran down stairs to my box of relay and found at least (5) 5 pin relays. Some Bocsh some FORD some who knows. So I looked up the connection diagram and found exactly what I needed. Thanks Tinman, you da man. As for the comedians ... I hope you never leave off what should have been left on

Thanks for your help.

Awww he must mean me *blushes*

Glad Tinmans idea worked for you. I like setup you have.

Now did I leave that on or off....

You're welcome. It is rare, but every once in a while I come up with a good one. :)

Relay is in, fan still runs off the thermo switch as intended. The disarming switch works as I need it to.... all is right in the world. Except for the government...lol

So tomorrow I'll be adding an LSD to my D35. Don't need or want a locker in the front, to harsh for winter driving. Besides, already have an Aussie Locker in the 8.8. The other thing I need to do tomorrow is put a new set of build for Ranger, Monroe MA770 airshocks, they are 26" fully extended. I built the heck out of my shock mounts to take the abuse. The only problem I'ev had with those things is they rust out under the rubber sleeve in about two or three years. I'll try to paint them with a POR15 style urethane paint then graphite paint. That might make them last a tad longer.

I wasn't referring to you Bronco 638, I'm a huge tiger fan :)
