I've read conflicting information. I'm about to install new lifters and pushrods on the 3OH. Being hydraulic roller do I need to pull soak them? Or is cleaning them with mineral spirits and the assembly lube good enough??

are you going to prime the engine?
that will fill the lifters and push oil up thru the pushrods, it then spills onto the rocker arm fulcrum/bridge.

if you put them in empty the spring pressure pushes the cup down, then they fill as soon as oil hits them.
if you put them in full they will/may hold the valves open until they bleed down to match the lash/preload.

per the 2005 Ford manual, page 303-01B-30

"lubricate the valve tappets and the valve tappet bores with clean engine oil prior to installation"

Not really sure how to do this so called "prime"....I mean old school was with an adapter that fit where the distributor went that would turn the oil pump

same idea, put a socket on a long extension, then on the oil pump drive shaft ,it's a hex and I forgot the size.

Duh, shame on me, it will be the same as the bottom of the sync assembly. :icon_rofl:

But it's not necessary to do this, correct. I plan on coating the lifters and all points of metal to metal contact in assembly lube the when I do the rockers pump motor oil into the lifters the best I can.

probably not, there's different methods for the same end result.
full rebuild or just top end stuff?

It's just top end. Something I should have done when I replaced the heads... pretty much everything else is new. I'll be replacing the injectors as well

Coat them with assembly lube. After you get it buttoned up & ready to start, unplug the coil pack & crank the engine for a few seconds, then plug the coil pack in & fire it up.

Definitely use assembly lube on every contact surface, assuming you are not working full time.

You prime the engine by driving the oil pump with an electric drill down the camshaft synchronizer hole using: a deep 8mm 1/4" socket, a long extension, plus a square to hex converter for attaching the drill. You do this before putting on the valve covers and the upper intake manifold -- just to confirm your oil pump works. Oil will ooze out of each rocker arm.
