I currently have a stock 1998 Ranger xlt 4x4 and i want to lift it. im looking to get around 5-6 inches, but am not looking to spend a lot of money. what should i do? want to put 33x12.50's on this truck. i dont want to spend a lot of money, but i do want it to look good and everything be correct.

Thanks!

The cheap way... Buy a 3" body lift; either 2" lift shackles, 2" add-a-leafs, or (most will tell you not to but done right sould work just fine) 2" blocks for the rear; do a Torsion Twist 2 " in the front to achieve your 5". Should easily accomidate 33's since from what i read the 3" BL alone will let you fit 33's.

Other then that... should have looked for a truck 1 year older, for going 'the cheap rout'. I wish I would have at this point.

Any questions on this see http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42452

Another option is to trim the wheel well. Along with some of the above, only the very back of each well would be in the way. I didn't have to cut metal, but I had to work on the inner fenders - heating the plastic then mashing down the high spots.

Another variable is wheel width. A wider wheel with less offset will put the tires in a wider arc, causing them to rub even more. I'm using 10" wide wheels but with 5" offset, that places the tire about the same as most 8" wheels but gives a bigger footprint in sand.

With everything put on correctly there is nothing I could possibly break or screw up with those options is this. I will be hunting on this truck and making it a everyday driver.

Try the sticky article at the top of the page, has all kinds of good info about lifts for your truck. And the search function.

There is no cheap way to lift your t-bar set up pick-up for 5-6" of lift. You don't have to lift that high anyway though if all you wanna do is run 33x12.5's. Again try the article at the top of the page.

I'm running 3" body, belltech shackles, and a 2" torsion crank (about 5" total) with 33 12.50 on a 15x10 with a 4" backset with no problems at all, no rubbing while turning at all. Only time I rub anything is with the rear tires stuffed into the bed when flexing. I'm also not running any sway bars.

what exactly is the backset? and shackles? what do they do?

On mine 3" body lift and 2" t-bars. Running 33" Baja claws with 15x12's. I had to cut the front fender a touch because of the rims being so wide and offset.

Other than that no problems. With a 15x8, Could easily run 35's

at the moment, i run 32x11.50 on 15" pacer wheels with no rubbing, even at lock-to-lock steering. all i've done lift-wise is crank the torsion keys and leave the 2" blocks under the leafs as they were.

in less than a couple of weeks, when i install a 3" body lift on it, i'll go up to 33x12.50 and have plenty of room in the wheel wells.

i have decided to put a 2.5" leveling kit and a 3" body lift on it and run 33x12.50x15 but not sure what size rim to put on. not really familiar with this stuff, want to put classic two's on it.
