i want to gain a few more inches of lift in my front end of my 89 xlt. i already have the explorer leaf springs in the rear and want just a bit more space for tires in the front. i want to get either skyjacker lift coils or possibly just explorer coils. i only want an inch and a half out of it, but on similar modifications i have noticed that even after realigned it never quite goes back to the same as it was and the tires tend to ride crooked and rub on the outside of the tire? not sure if this can be avoided or if they just had a bad shop do the alignment? but anyways, i would like to do the swap but just dont want to royally screw up my alignment. any pictures or advice is appreciated!

Your best bet is to try to find an alignment shop that's well-versed with Ford Twin-Beam suspensions. Unfortunately it seems that more shops are not than are, so you might need to call a few places and ask some questions first before you take your truck in and start handing your $$$ over to them.

As for your truck, 1.5" of lift should be well within the limits of alignability. You will need new camber/caster alignment bushings. A shop that is competent should be able to order the correct ones for you, or you could also get a set of fully adjustable ones and (again) they should be able to adjust them to the correct settings.

X2 Find a good shop first, typical tire shops don't actually train people anymore so an average kid won't have a clue.
