If you want to really protect your truck, surround it with a good horse fence, the electric kind. That has a little more bite to it.

My uncle cured his basset hound from peeing on his tires/wheels just by hooking his car up to an electric fencer. The tires insulate the car from the ground like the fence posts do on a fence, somebody does something to metal and they won't forget it.

It would probably encourage them to do something like get a ball bat and exact "revenge" on the truck... if it was my truck

Moving isn't really practical.(For most people anyway.) Shooting to kill isn't either. (Although probably what I'd do.) And the electrical thing just won't work. As stated you couldn't pull enough power from a regular wall socket to do any good. (Experience)

Make sure it's on the local patrol route for awhile seems like the only reasonable solution. I'm not too sure how reasonable that is either. It depends on the police force in your area.

Otherwise camp out in the truck with a >LARGE< crowbar till they try it again and hope you don't get shot I guess.

Dude they walk further to get the drugs they're selling your shit for. At around a mile you might as well be in the ghetto.

As suggested remove everything of value and leave the doors unlocked, possibly even the windows down if the weather is nice. After they find nothing a few times they'll stop looking. I hate taking the passive approach as much as anyone else here, but pretty much anything else will end up with you in jail and them still getting your shit. Sure you can talk to the cops about a patrol or something, but I wouldn't count on it happening. My dad's done it a few times for various issues (mostly noise violations and trespassing) around their neighborhood, but it never did any good.

Get a BBD-12 security system...cheap, loyal, and very portable. Big Brown Dog and a 12 gauge. You will inevitably be asked..."does that dog bite?" Correct reply: Only when I tell him to.

Years ago when I still lived in Ohio, we had a problem with car break ins in our neighborhood. Several of us took turns patrolling in pairs on foot during the wee hours. The punks got the word and moved on to an easier area. Pro-active citizens CAN make a difference.
