Level lift springs, which rides better?

So, after reading volumes on here and the Ranger Forum, I got a question about ride quality. I'm going to go with leveling springs on the nose of our XLT.

I've used Rough Country on our FSJ and it rides pretty good, but it can be a bit, well, rough. I've been looking at both Rough Country and Skyjacker. What are your opinions on the ride between the two? We're rocking the 2.3, so would there be any extra boost with V6 springs? Got my wheels. Got my tires. Got my adjustable camber bushings. Got my lift shackles if I need them. Just need to dial this in.

I really try to plan out a project before I get too far into it. It saves on buying stuff twice. It took a while to dial the Jeep into where I like it and it hasn't taken any blood for me lately, so it must be time to crack a knuckle again.

What are your opinions?

V6 springs like from a Super cab will be way stiff. The skyjacker springs should be softer than the rough countrys. Just search around for spring ppi. Lot of info on this. And honestly it depends what you looking to do with the truck. Flex? Nice ride quality on road? A mix?

Yeah, that supercab thing pops up a lot. When I first started looking into this I would check a part and it would say "Not for XLT or Supercab". I understand the extra weight thing, but man, sometimes it can get frustrating.

It's probably gonna spend most of it's time on surface roads until we find spy that one fishing hole we wanna get to. So, yeah, we're gonna go where we shouldn't with it. I got a great story about burying a GMC to the frame rails in sand.... Just because my hair is getting grey, it doesn't mean I'm getting any smarter.

Is it 4x4? Honestly if you have the cash get the skyjacker leveling springs. Its hard to get coils for these trucks for multi use. Jeeps are to soft. Alot of people like eb coils cuz there flex. F150s give a little height but are stiff. Any coil in a ranger kit will be stiff. 300ish ppi is what you need and unless you have a custom coil made its hard to get "your" perfect coil.

Seems that you can get pretty good on road characteristics and flex with the stock coils and extended radius arms with longer shocks. That's what I'm gonna start with. Although I have a leveling blocks.

If you want soft ride and good flex offroad i would go with skyjacker. I have rough country coils and if tge ones that, you are looking at are anything like mine you wont be happy.

Oh, I feel so ashamed. I thought the truck info was in the Avatar. It's a 4x2 (ya can't drive wood) 95 Supercab XLT with a 2.3 and 5spd. I've been on a couple of Mopar forums forever, you would think I know better.

For the 4x4 fix, we have this on a RC 3" lift.

I was originally go with the 2" spacers on the nose, but I got a swinging deal on Cooper Discoverer AT3s in 265/75R15 and I picked up some Soft 8s for a pretty reasonable price. I've always been a bigger fan of springs over blocks and the extra travel can't hurt. Not saying I need it, but.......

This is the first I've heard of extended radius arms. Am I missing something? Am I losing more days in the search engine?

The only way to flex the ttb is with extended arms and longer shocks. And yes you will lose more days in the search function. Extended arms aren't cheap. Unless you can make them yourself?

Read it. You'll get more with extended radius arms and stock coils then some rough country crap. Or a drop kit or even the leveling coils. Radius arms seem to be the biggest limiting factor in our flex.

That guy would get more flex with longer/softer coils like wild horse eb 5.5. Some use jeep xj but not alot. And with those taller coils you need drop pivot brackets. Max lift is 2 inches without the drop pivot brackets.

I actually just asked like 90% of this within my last few threads started. If you wanna look at the threads I've started or read some build threads.

Yep, probably not going to see them in my future. (Famous last words)
I'm going to try and keep this one as sane as possible, well at least in my terms. I have had years of hotrod this, over built that. I wrench for a living and it's getting kinda old always working on my own stuff on nights and weekends. I love a good project, but there are times when it's nice to just grab the wife, the dogs and just go.

I am liking the appeal of this being somewhat unfamiliar territory for me. I know that for most of you folks, this is something that you have done for years. I've been doing restorations, hotrods, streetrods, and muscle cars for over three decades, so this is actually refreshing in a sick and twisted way.

start in my build thread on page 123 (I think..)

shows my TTB build up/D35 swap for my B2.
Basically, the XJ coils I had were to soft... the EB 3.5" coils are the perfect choice for my application.

IMO, for a 4x2 if your wanting to basicly keep the factory ride quality and travel then i'd say go with a 2in spindle lift/level. pretty cheap (about $100 if i remember right) and it keeps everything in factory spec with the steering and suspension. then if you want more later down the road add in lift/level springs. :icon_thumby:

Pro Comp had them last time i looked, but that was a few years ago.

Yeah, it's looking like the Skyjacker spring for me. Thanks swynx and 4.0 for some great reading time ahead of me. I really am digging what everyone is doing to their rigs. Of course, I already went through all the tech info on the V-8 swaps. How could I not? Not gonna happen on this one, but.....

Jusg a warning and i think just about everybody would agree, once you start upgrading things it turns into an obsession.

Oh, yeah, I can see that happening. When I first started working on the wife's Wagoneer, it was just maintenance. Then came the ignition upgrades. Then came the suspension. Then came the looking for other ways to "improve" things. (5.3 LSX/OD trans in the planning stages). Ya'll know Jeep stands for Just Empty Every Pocket, right? I'm thinking an old Cherokee WT would be cool....

I've been a longtime Mopar owner. I've had Chargers, Roadrunners, even a Ramcharger. Current project is a 69 Valiant 2dr sedan. It's DD right now with a 6 cyl, but is getting a stroker 340. (As soon as I get other things in line). Heck, even my beater 76 GMC 1/2 ton got an overdrive conversion.

Uh Oh. Now I went an done it. Wheels and tires mounted and installed. Skyjacker springs sitting in the garage. Gonna drag that puppy over here on the weekend and get started.

Should I do a build thread?
