Well motocross is pretty much my life. Back in the day my friends and I would screw around with quads, and I figured out it was my thing in no time.
Started off with a 1986 Suzuki LT230S that I bought for $800. Ended up running the piss out of it and rebuilt it 3 times. I still have it today, and it now sits with a full race motor (13:1, 273cc, knife edged rod and welded crank, ported head, big valves, cam, exhaust, huge carb, modified suspension, wider axle, etc). Back when I first started racing it killed everything in the "blaster class" as it was called. It ate warriors, 300ex's, blasters, and mojaves for lunch. The best part is no one at the track knew wtf a suzuki 230 was. I'll never forget that bike.
Then I moved on to a 1986 Suzuki LT250R. Plain and simple, that bike is a complete animal. I dont really remember what I ended up doing to it, but at one point it was a 268 with a Duncan racing ported cylinder, milled head, bigger carb, aftermarket exhaust, etc. all the goodies. Also upgraded the shocks, swaped the swingarm for a later model, re valved the rear shock, and modded the a-arms. The best part about that bike was it made over 50hp and yet still had an incredible powerband. you could lug that thing like a 4 stroke in the tight woods, and the powerband was always right there for when you needed it. plus, it only weighs around 275lbs which is lighter than any of todays modern 450's (which would be the equivalent today, since the EPgAy doesnt like 2strokes). I raced that up until the quad scene died down in these parts (nj,pa,and surrounding areas).
And now, I'm currently building a race bike since it's just too damn hard to race a quad around here. I'll still always have quads to screw around on and race whenever i get a chance, but this bike is for serious racing for points and money. I actually just got it a few weeks ago, and i'll tell ya, 60hp in a 210lb vehicle is quite a rush, and I havent even dug in to the motor yet!
heres a few pics, most of them are OLD, with exception of the dirtbike.
oh by the way, the bike is a 1996 ATK 250LQ. If anyone's ever heard of it I'll be impressed lmao. American made frame, rotax engine, white power/wp (ktm) suspension, brembo brakes, taperwall bars, did chain, talon sprockets, talon hubs, talon rims, mikuni carb etc. quite the mix-up, straight from the factory lol. that bikes pretty awesome and has no problem hanging with and beating in many cases any jap 250 2 stroke or 450 4 stroke. my only complaint is the miserable straight cut gear transmission. yes, its a 6 speed and thats nice, but you simply cant shift under power like the jap bikes, and theres way too many false neutrals. its simply not cut out for serious racing. so i'll probably end up trading for an rmz450 this summer, but i gotta live with it for this racing season.
