what did you use for the bows the tarp rest on???????

pvc conduit cut to size

a nice canvas tarp, with sewen eyelets (no metal) would be best for this, as it would be quiet, and wouldn't scratch the paint, but i don't know of anyone who works with canvas... though i'm sure if i talked to my dad, he could probably whip something up for me...

just sent my dad an email, hopefully he will get back to me, he loves working on stuff like this so i don't really see it being an issue...

just curious, depending on price, is this something that anyone else on the forum might be interested in?

Tks weezl, may have to experiment a little and come up with something similar,

Damn! It must've been the drugs! I just went through the thread again and realized I posted my truck in here twice. - so sorry.

Anyway, for whoever asked about it being rare, they are hard to come by, but this one was on it's last leg. It was hit hard on the drivers side and the door still doesn't close right. I'm the only one that would put work into something like it.

Weezl- I camped like that a couple of trips ago. NEVER AGAIN (with plastic)! You're right about needing a canvas top.

i'm a pretty heavy sleeper, so once i'm asleep, i don't typically wake back up again, but a canvas tarp would be MUCH better quality

Weezl, yes I would be interested in something like that. Does the pvc conduit flex much under gusts of wind, or is it pretty sturdy? I was thinking maybe adding a roof beam connecting the 2 hoops across the top to keep the hoops from flexing, but I have never tried a setup like this before.

it's pretty solid, i will have to do some work to see what the cost to make it would be, but as it turns out, i've got everyone i need, to do everything from creating the design, right up to manufacturing the product, in my immediate family, the only thing i don't have is someone who has a whole bunch of fabric.

That's bloody expensive! That is less material than I would need (I think) and More expensive than the material for the whole project...

shipping included its $0.55 per square foot, how is that expensive? also your truck bed is 6 feet long, how is a 10x15 canvas not enough?

I can see those 4 grommets right down the middle being an issue if it rains. :D

I was just using it as an example. I didn't do any of the measuring/figuring.
If I was making something like this for other people, I would want to use something like a heavy canvas.
Good buys are out there.

That works out to about 5.80 a square meter, I forget the number that I need, but I can find new fabric, any color I want, for about 4-5 per meter...

Good luck with it. I'd like to see the final product.

Trs will be either the first, or second place I post pics! Don't hold your breath, it will be a fair amount of time before I actually have this built...
