Let's see those explorer center consoles

I wish I could find one that clean in a yard! All the ones I found are tore up

Hey KennyKenny, what year explorer did you get your console out of? It all looks great!! Do you think it would work with a manual shift truck with no body lift??

I believe it was a '98, but anything from '95-'00 is the same. Yes it will work without the body lift, it will work better actually since the shifter lines up right where it needs to be since there were manual explorers.

Thanks KennyKenny. So do I have to have one from a manual explorer or could I use one from an auto and cut that front piece of center console so that the manual stick and boot will come through? Is this what you did, or did you find one with the manual front center plastic? Any help would be appreciated.

best pics i have but this is the factory console in my b2 but the armrest is broken so it dont go up and down real easy so i might try to get a full length one.

I used just a normal automatic trans console, your chances of finding one for a manual are about that of winning the lottery. The only thing I had to cut was the rear hvac duct that runs underneath but you can take that out if you take apart the console.(I didn't want to chance breaking anything.) The part where the shifter comes through is actually 2 pieces. I ordered the shift boot from www.redlinegoods.com

Here is a write-up on their website. http://www.redlinegoods.com/Ranger95install.shtm

whoa whoa whoa STOP! a RBV only junkyard in NC??? WHERE?!?!?! :icon_surprised::icon_surprised: must.... :fie: see... :fie: all these RBV parts :fie: !!!

It is in Lexington, NC. It is called Louia Motor Company and is at I-85 and US-64. They buy wrecked rangers and repair em to resell. They won't sell everything as some things they will use to repair other trucks but they have quite a bit.

o yeah, that RBV junkyard had a manual explorer with a full size console! I can see if they will sell it to me if you want.

Thanks again KennyKenny. One more question though, if I use an auto console like you said, does it have to be one with just the big deep compartment built into it under the dash. Or can I use one that has the buttons and the information center in that place? Then just take the screen and buttons out and be able to use it like that? Thanks again for the info.

Thanks for the offer but I already have one. :icon_thumby:

I think it has to be the deep compartment. I don't think the message center is 2 peices.

the one with the message center does have two pieces. The console I got originally had the info panel but then I took it out and got the section with the two storage compartments to replace it. The buttons can be unscrewed and taken off of that housing that it is in but you can't take the message center and put it on a storage compartment housing because the screw holes don't line up.

Thanks guys for the info. Hopefully I can find a good one at the salvage yard. May even see if I can snag another shifter assembly and maybe do a little cut, weld, bend, and fab. and see what kind of shifter stick I can make that would look cool but not cost alot.
