I'm thinking of buying a Leer cover for an 89 Ranger Supercab. After some research on this, ( according to some ) is that there are only three types of beds on the Ranger from literally 82 to present. Others list from 93 on up. This one was on a 1992 XLT standard bed. Leer doesnt go back to 1989 so obviously I'm a bit concerned.
1. Standard
2. Longbed
3. Styleside

That said, whats the difference between them ? Is the standard considered a shortbed ? I hear that term tossed around as well. Mine has a 6 ft bed. Are there really differences between years that would preclude putting this on ? Any first hand experience out there ?

What Leer is refering to as a "Standard" is a shortbed.

There are TWO bed lengths, the short which is nominally 6ft
The long bed which is nominally 7ft.

The style side was only offered '93 up and is also nominally 6ft in length but narrower.

Supercabs have the short beds.

though there was one nutcase (we'll see if he appears) on here that grafted
two frames together to create a one-off longbed supercab.

The narrower bed is often referred to as a "stepside" or a "flareside". It seems like Ford had a specific name for the non-stepside beds, but I can't remember what it was.

Styleside is the non-flared bed.

So the bed is straight up and down ? That means the fenders would have to be flared out quite a bit ?

No, on the "flare side" beds they are made with a "retro" styling like an old step side pickp truck

The outside of the wheel wells are in the same place, but the bedrails are located inwards.

The "skirts" are fiberglass but the deck and support structure are steel.
