Anyone have any recomendations for replacement hooks for a lebra hood protector? One of mine broke on my Mazda6 this morning and Id rather not replace the whole hood protector that is in otherwise good shape.

i had one on my wife's car when we got it new. found out all it did was beat the paint to death along the edge of it. couldn't get rid of it fast enough. have no clue where you can get those hooks. if you need one for a mid 2000 Subaru Forester, you can have mine for the cost of postage!

Correct, they beat the paint to death if you never take them off or do not wash your car or underneath them propoerly. Dirt builds up underneath and it is like driving around with a piece of sandpaper on your car.

This is why my is on only when the car is clean. The minute it rains, it comes off and does not go back on until the car is washed again. It is not used from the first snow until all the salt is off the road for the season. When the Mazda6 was my only car, it was washed at least once a week. So basically I am saying it was never dirty under the hood protector. Now that I have the Ranger, the Mazda does not see bad weather as much and stays clean in the garage longer.

So it is not necessarily the hood protector that beats the paint to death, it is not properly maintaining it. I understand I am more anal than most about how clean my car has to be. Some people are fine letting the rain or a car wash clean their car. If a hood protector is too much of a hassle, then a bug deflector or nothing might be a better choice.

actually, it was the wind causing the constant, minute flapping of the trailing edge that caused it. it was used for traveling the freeway almost exclusivly. and it was washed weekly as well. my wife is pretty anal about her car, too. that was just our experience with them. when we took it to the body shop, they affirmed that bras are known to cause that condition on the hood paint.

I'm with strvger. The week I bought my BII, I bought one of those things because I wanted to keep it nice.
I grew up working in a dealership, and started in the washrack, so I know a thing or two about waxing.
So I put a wax so nice an slick that a fly would land on the hood and slide off.
I put the LeBra cover on, and headed to my friends for a road trip. Nothing but highway driving.
Got to Arkansas and pulled the bra off to check it, and the damned thing had rubbed scratches all across the hood.
Needless to say, it was forcibly removed and deposited in the trash.
I'd never recommend them to anyone, but if it works for you...

I had one on my 99 Ranger for years and it never hurt my paint. I bought that bra in Aug of 99. I bought my Ranger new in July 99. I took the bra off last summer to put on my new Harley Davidson bug protector I bought for $10.00 brand new here on Cragslist. I sold the Labra very used for $20.00 to a guy at a swap meet!!! It still looked great!! I still have not put on the HD bug deflector. It is still wrapped up in the original wrappings in the garage. I like the looks of the truck without anything on it now. Very clean looking truck.

So, I contacted Covercraft in hopes they could point me in the direction of where I could find these hooks. As simple as that, they got my address and sent me out a few repalcement hooks no charge. Thought that was cool of them considering I didn't really give them any details (such as it was 6 years old). Just an example of how important good customer service is.

That is one great company!!! I alway said I will buy from them again and well, I just did. I bought a front bra for my wife's 03 Toyota. It came in this week!!!! I put it on yesterday and it fits like a glove. Very simple to put on. I neve put on one of these whole front end thingies before. It was so simple and I am disabled!!!!
