I was leaking oil out of my 91 ford ranger, so I pulled it into the garage and looked it over well. I think that the oil leak is coming from the oil pressure sending switch. It may be coming from somewhere else but I can't tell. is it possible that the leak is from the OPSS?

ya thats possible im not sure where its located on the 4 cylinders but on the 2.9L it is possible. might have to just tighten it down

its a 2.3L - 4 cylinder. I am trying to get at it every way possible but it is in a difficult position. its just below the intake manifold on the drivers side in the back, close to the fire wall. I think I am going to have to take off the intake manifold to get to it, unless anyone has a better idea. I may be able to get to it by taking off the tire and the mud shield, but thats a long shot.

So I wanted to try all other options before I removed the intake manifold to get to this part. I took off the inner wheel well panel on the drivers side, but it is still pretty buried. I think I can get in there with a 1" deep socket and an extension that has a pivot. I have to purchase this tool today since I do not have it in my arsenal. I will let you know how it turns out.

I had to replace my oil pressure switch and had to remove the intake manifold to do it. I could get the deep socket over the switch, no problem, but when I'd put an extension on it the extension would touch the intake manifold. So I wasn't able to get a good enough connection between the socket and the extension to get it off. Maybe if I had some special connectors it may have worked. It was a good thing I had to remove it though, the gasket between the block and the lower half of the intake was toast.

Good luck

Finally some good luck. I bought a 1 1/16" deep socket, a 3" extension, a universal joint and a 10" extension. I took off the drivers side wheel and inner fender. I was able to get the old oil pressure sending switch off and the new one in about 30 minutes after I got the right tools. Thanks for your help guys. now its time to :yahoo::beer::yahoo::beer:
